Reykjavik is the capital and largest city of Iceland, It’s known for its vibrant culture, stunning natural landscapes, and a unique blend of modern and traditional elements. The Blue Lagoon, while not directly in Reykjavik, this geothermal spa is a popular destination located nearby. The milky blue waters are rich in minerals, and it’s a relaxing experience set against a lava field backdrop. Reykjavik’s proximity to the Arctic Circle makes it an excellent location for witnessing the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) during the winter months.
Reykjavík is a very walkable city, with most major sights like Hallgrímskirkja, the Harpa Concert Hall, and the Sun Voyager sculpture all located close to each other.
Many roads in Iceland are gravel, and weather can change quickly, so be sure to rent a 4×4 if you plan on traveling into more remote areas, especially during winter.
Geothermal pools are an essential part of Icelandic culture, and visiting one is a must in Reykjavík. The Blue Lagoon is world-famous, but for a more local experience, visit Laugardalslaug, the largest public pool in the city.
