Description
Vienna Watersports Arena is an artificial white-water venue located in Vienna’s 22nd district, between the New Danube and the Danube River, near Steinspornbrücke. The facility features a 250-metre-long wild-water channel with a water flow of up to 12 cubic metres per second, powered by pumps. Adjustable obstacles in the channel allow for varying levels of difficulty, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced paddlers. A conveyor belt system returns rafts, kayaks, or swimmers from the finish pool to the starting point. The arena typically operates from February to October and is a popular destination for adventure sports enthusiasts.
Participants must be at least 12 years old, know how to swim, and be in decent physical condition. Before getting in the water, everyone receives a safety briefing on land. Activities available include guided rafting and kayaking, with lessons provided by the on-site Kayak Academy for both beginners and those looking to improve. The arena is designed for both individuals and groups, and special programs are sometimes available for schools or corporate events. All equipment is usually provided as part of the activity fee, though personal gear like swimwear and towels must be brought by participants.
Tourists should plan to spend around 2 to 3 hours at the arena, which covers check-in, safety instructions, gear fitting, the activity itself, and post-session wrap-up. Prices vary depending on the type of activity—whether it’s a group rafting tour or an individual kayaking lesson—and may include discounts through local programs or group bookings. Since availability can be limited, especially during weekends or summer months, booking in advance is highly recommended. Bring swimwear, a towel, and possibly water shoes or a wetsuit if advised. The arena offers a unique and refreshing experience, especially during warmer months, and is a great way to see a different, more adventurous side of Vienna.
