Description
Tokyo Skytree is an iconic broadcasting and observation tower located in the Sumida Ward of Tokyo, Japan. Standing at 634 meters (2,080 feet), it is the tallest structure in Japan and the second tallest tower in the world. Completed in 2012, Tokyo Skytree was designed to serve as a modern television and radio broadcast tower while also becoming a major tourist attraction. Its futuristic design combines traditional Japanese aesthetics with cutting-edge engineering, making it a striking landmark visible from many parts of the sprawling Tokyo metropolis.
Tourists flock to Tokyo Skytree for its spectacular panoramic views of Tokyo and, on clear days, even Mount Fuji. The tower features two observation decks: the Tembo Deck at 350 meters offers a spacious viewing area with floor-to-ceiling windows, cafes, and shops, while the higher Tembo Galleria at 450 meters provides a thrilling skywalk experience through a spiralling glass corridor. Besides the observation decks, the complex includes a large shopping mall called Tokyo Solamachi, featuring hundreds of shops, restaurants, and an aquarium, making it a full-day destination for visitors.
Visitors need to purchase tickets to access the observation decks, with prices varying depending on the deck and age group. It’s recommended to buy tickets in advance, especially during peak seasons, as lines can be long. The Tokyo Skytree is easily accessible by public transport, served by Tokyo Skytree Station on the Tobu Skytree Line and Oshiage Station on several subway lines. Practical tips for visitors include checking weather conditions for optimal views, visiting earlier or later in the day to avoid crowds, and noting that the tower has facilities for accessibility, including elevators and ramps for people with disabilities.
