Description

The Projector is Singapore’s premier independent cinema, renowned for its eclectic programming and retro charm. Established in 2014 by Karen Tan, Sharon Tan, and Blaise Trigg-Smith, it occupies the former Golden Theatre at Golden Mile Tower—a venue that was once the largest cinema in Singapore and Malaysia in the 1970s. The founders revitalized the space, transforming it into a cultural hub that celebrates alternative voices and boundary-pushing art.

The Projector specializes in screening a diverse range of films, including indie, foreign, arthouse, and cult classics, as well as hosting live events like stand-up comedy and drag shows. Its unique atmosphere, complemented by vintage aesthetics and a commitment to showcasing underrepresented narratives, has made it a beloved venue among cinephiles and creatives alike .

In addition to its original location at Golden Mile Tower, The Projector expanded to Cineleisure Orchard in collaboration with Golden Village, further cementing its presence in Singapore's cultural scene. Despite challenges such as rising operational costs leading to adjustments in ticket pricing and screening schedules, The Projector continues to thrive as a testament to the enduring appeal of independent cinema.
