Description

The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet (Den Norske Opera & Ballett) is Norway's premier institution for opera and ballet, established in 1957. It is the only professional opera and ballet company in the country, with a mission to produce and present opera, ballet, music, and dance theatre. The company is currently based at the Oslo Opera House, a modern architectural landmark completed in 2008. The Opera House is situated on the Bjørvika peninsula, blending seamlessly with the urban waterfront and offering public access to its sloping marble roof, which provides panoramic views of the Oslofjord.

The Norwegian National Ballet, the country's only classically based ballet company, consists of around 70 dancers. Together with the Norwegian National Ballet 2, they form a dynamic ensemble that performs a diverse repertoire, including both classical and contemporary works. The company has been instrumental in developing and promoting ballet in Norway, offering a platform for both established and emerging choreographers and dancers.

Under the artistic direction of Ingrid Lorentzen and the leadership of CEO Geir Bergkastet, the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet continues to be a vital cultural institution in Norway. The company stages numerous performances annually, attracting audiences from around the world. With its commitment to artistic excellence and community engagement, the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet plays a pivotal role in the cultural landscape of Oslo and beyond.
