Description

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway is a spectacular cable car experience that transports visitors to the top of one of Cape Town’s most iconic landmarks. Originally opened in 1929 and modernized in 1997, the cable cars feature rotating floors and large glass panels, providing a 360-degree view of the city, coastline, and dramatic cliffs during the brief 4–5 minute ascent. It's a must-do for first-time visitors, offering a quick and breath-taking way to reach the summit without the effort of a hike.

The Cableway operates daily, with opening and closing times varying by season—extending later in the evening during summer and closing earlier in winter. Tickets can be purchased for one-way or round trips, with discounts available in the afternoon and for certain categories like students and seniors. The system typically shuts down for maintenance for several weeks during winter, usually around July or August, so checking ahead is recommended.

Once at the summit, guests can enjoy walking trails, free guided tours, and various facilities including a café, gift shops, and a Wi-Fi lounge. Wildlife like rock hyraxes and a variety of birds are commonly spotted among the unique mountain flora. With sweeping views over Cape Town, Table Bay, Robben Island, and beyond, the Aerial Cableway offers an unforgettable way to experience the natural beauty and panoramic grandeur of Table Mountain.
