Description

Venice SUP experiences are led by professional, licensed guides who take you through quieter side-canals and lagoon areas, avoiding the busy Grand Canal and main transport routes. These tours typically last around 100 minutes (about 1 hour and 40 minutes) and start from within Venice, often in more residential areas like Calle Brazzo. Most tours are available from late spring to early autumn, depending on weather, tides, and water traffic. SUP in Venice offers a peaceful and unique way to explore the city from the water, especially early in the morning or late in the evening when canals are calm.

There are important rules and restrictions for SUP in Venice. Only participants aged 14 and over are allowed on the standard canal tours, and minors must usually be accompanied by an adult. Swimming in the canals is forbidden, and participants must wear appropriate clothing—no bare chests or bikinis are allowed, so bring a rash guard or t-shirt. SUP in Venice is only allowed as part of a guided tour; unguided rentals are not permitted within the city. Basic paddling experience is helpful, but not required, as many tours begin with a short training session. During the tour, you must stay to the left, use hand signals at crossings, and follow your guide’s instructions carefully to stay safe and respectful of local traffic.

Prices for canal SUP tours are typically around €70–€75 per person. This includes the board, paddle, life vest, waterproof bag, and a licensed guide. For those wanting to learn SUP in a less crowded environment, beginner lessons are also offered at Venice Lido, starting from about €35 for a 90-minute session. These lessons are suitable for ages 7 and up and provide a calmer sea setting to build confidence before trying the city canals. Tourists should allow at least 2 to 2.5 hours in total for the full SUP experience, including briefing, changing, and walking to the meeting point. Bring sunscreen, a towel, water, and clothes you don’t mind getting wet. Advance booking is strongly recommended, especially in summer.
