Description
Silves Castle, a historic Moorish fortress in the Algarve, is open daily except on Christmas and New Year's Day. Its operating hours vary by season:
1st June – 31st August: 9:00 AM – 11:00 PM
1st September – 15th October: 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM
16th October – 31st May: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
The last entry is 30 minutes before closing time. Admission is €2.80 for adults, with discounts for children, students, seniors, and groups. A combined ticket with the Archaeological Museum is available for €3.90.
The castle features eleven square towers, including two barbicans, and a walkable rampart offering panoramic views. Inside, visitors can explore the Moorish-style garden and the cistern, which once supplied the city with water. The castle also hosts the annual Medieval Fair in August, transforming into a lively medieval village.
Silves Castle is approximately a 10–15 minute walk from the town centre. Free parking is available near the river, with a short walk to the castle. The town is accessible by bus, train, or taxi from nearby coastal towns.
