Description
Showplace Icon Theatre was a modern, upscale cinema located in Chicago’s South Loop within the Roosevelt Collection development. Opened in 2009 by Kerasotes ShowPlace Theatres, it quickly became known for offering a luxurious moviegoing experience. The venue featured 16 screens, reserved leather recliner seating, and an extensive food and beverage menu, including in-theater dining and a stylish bar. Its sleek design and high-end amenities set it apart as a favorite spot for those seeking both blockbuster entertainment and comfort.
The theater was widely appreciated for its top-tier sound and projection systems, clean facilities, and sophisticated atmosphere. Patrons often praised the ease of parking, the courteous staff, and the lounge-style waiting area. It catered to both casual moviegoers and serious film fans, with a VIP section that elevated the viewing experience. Over time, it became one of the South Loop’s most dependable entertainment options and was frequently recommended for date nights and special outings.
In June 2024, the theater closed its doors following Kerasotes’ exit from the theater business, much to the disappointment of its loyal customers. However, AMC Theatres later announced plans to reopen the location under its brand in early 2025. The new AMC Roosevelt Collection 16 is expected to retain many of the luxury features that made the original theater popular, including power recliners and a full-service bar. This transition aims to maintain the high standard of cinema that South Loop residents had come to expect, while bringing new energy and programming under the AMC banner.
