Description
Severyane is a creative modern‑Russian restaurant located at Bol’shaya Nikitskaya Ulitsa 12, Moscow. It blends inventive cuisine with a distinctive interior—think semi‑dark lighting, warm tones contrasted with artful décor, hanging candle‑like lights from the ceiling, and furnishings that nod to avant‑garde Russian design. There’s a huge traditional Russian oven (“pech”) which is a central feature: many dishes are baked or grilled in it, giving the food a rich, smoky depth.
The menu is inventive, pushing beyond standard Russian fare. Chef Georgy Troyan leads the kitchen, working with restaurateurs Ilya Tyutenkov and Uilliam Lamberti. Dishes combine classic techniques—French cooking often—with local ingredients and traditions. Examples include lamb tongues with beetroot and horseradish, Celery root “vermicelli” with truffle sauce, oven‑baked pike perch with cabbage, or Camembert in ash on poppy brioche. There are also excellent breakfast offerings; the restaurant opens early (around 9 am) and the breakfast menu runs until mid‑afternoon.
Severyane is open daily from 9 am, generally closing around midnight (extended slightly later on Fridays and Saturdays). The atmosphere suits a range of occasions: romantic dinners, relaxed business meetings, breakfasts, or weekend brunches. The dress code is smart casual. Because of its popularity, reservations are advised—especially for evenings or when you want a more secluded, cosy table. Prices are upscale to match the quality and creativity of the food, but many diners find the experience well worth it.
