Description
As the heatwave is giving no respite to Rome these days, many visitors may wish to hit up the beaches that are so close to the city and (mostly!) well connected by public transport.
The most well-known LGBTQ+ destination for beach lovers near Rome, it is easily reachable from the city, thanks to the light rail trains departing from Porta San Paolo (just one door down from the subway stop at Piramide: there are several hallways connecting the two stations).
The closest stop to the beach once in Ostia is Lido Cristoforo Colombo. From there, walk to the waterfront and look for a bus stop for line 07. This bus will go south on the “Litoranea” (“coastal”) road, which connects Ostia and nearby Torvajanica.
You will need to get off the bus as close as possible to the 8,7 km mark – worry not , as there are gates on the road marked I, II, III etc – get off when you see the number VIII. The *litoranea* cuts through the sand dunes – pass the gate there and walk on the the wooden footbridge over the dunes themselves until you see a kiosk: you’ll have reached your destination!
Settimo Cielo has several facilities and amenities available – it is also a café and a crowded restaurant.
