Description
Sale Water Park is a large public park in Sale Moor, Greater Manchester, covering around 152 acres of green space including a 52-acre artificial lake. Surrounded by woodlands, meadows, and wetlands, it's a favourite destination for walking, jogging, picnicking, and wildlife spotting, especially at the Broad Ees Dole nature reserve. The lake itself is a central feature and supports a range of water activities through the Trafford Watersports Centre, offering kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, sailing, and windsurfing. The natural setting makes it ideal for both recreation and relaxation.
Entry to the park is free and it remains open year-round from dawn until dusk. The Trafford Watersports Centre operates with more limited hours, typically from 9 AM to 5 PM on weekends, bank holidays, and during school holidays. Boat hire costs between £10 and £20 per hour, and includes equipment like life jackets and paddles. Open water swimming sessions are managed by Open Swim UK, typically running from May to September, with adult sessions costing around £5 and discounts for children. Fishing is also allowed in designated areas, though a valid fishing license is required.
Visitors planning to engage in water activities or explore the surrounding parkland should allow at least half a day. Bring swimwear, a towel, sun protection, and a change of clothes if swimming. The park is well-equipped with facilities, including toilets, changing areas, and a lakeside restaurant (The Boathouse), which makes it easy to combine outdoor fun with a meal. Sale Water Park is accessible by car and public transport, including a nearby Metrolink tram stop. While casual visits don’t usually require booking, it's a good idea to check availability or book ahead for specific sessions or group activities.
