Description
Pllek is located on the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam Noord, accessible via a free ferry ride from behind Central Station, followed by a short walk or bike ride. Built partly from repurposed shipping containers, it blends industrial charm with a creative, colourful design. Large glass windows offer expansive views of the IJ river and the Amsterdam skyline, making it a popular spot for both locals and visitors looking for a relaxed, offbeat atmosphere.
Instead of a traditional beach, Pllek features an artificial sandy area filled with beanbags, deck chairs, and cosy carpets, perfect for lounging in the sun. While it’s not intended for swimming or watersports, the space comes alive with music, yoga sessions, outdoor movie nights, and DJ sets—especially during summer weekends. The focus is on community, culture, and a chill beach bar vibe, rather than active recreation on the water.
Pllek is partially accessible, with the indoor restaurant, restrooms, and terraces accommodating wheelchairs. However, the sandy beach area and the upper floor are less accessible due to the lack of a lift. The menu emphasizes sustainability, offering around 75% vegetarian dishes with at least 25% vegan options, alongside responsibly sourced meat and fish. Pllek also serves as a venue for events like workshops, performances, private parties, and weddings, offering both indoor and outdoor spaces with full facilities.
