Description
Petra tou Romiou, also known as Aphrodite’s Rock, is a striking sea stack located along the southern coast of Cyprus, approximately 25 minutes' drive east of Paphos. According to Greek mythology, this is the legendary birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite, who is said to have emerged from the sea foam here. The site is renowned for its dramatic limestone formations rising from the turquoise waters, making it a popular spot for photography, sightseeing, and romantic visits.
Accessing the beach is straightforward via a free, 24-hour car park equipped with restrooms and a small shop offering refreshments and souvenirs. A pedestrian tunnel beneath the main highway provides safe passage to the beach area. While swimming around the rock is a popular activity—believed by some to bring good luck in love—the waters can be rough, and it's advisable to exercise caution. Climbing the rock itself is strictly prohibited.
The area is open year-round and free to visit. It's a particularly enchanting spot at sunset, when the sky and sea are bathed in golden hues. For those relying on public transportation, bus #631 runs from Paphos Harbour to Petra tou Romiou, with services typically operating in the morning and late evening. Visitors are encouraged to check the current schedule, as times may vary.
