Description
The National Museum of Art of Romania is housed in the former Royal Palace on Calea Victoriei 49‑53, in central Bucharest. It contains several major collections: Romanian medieval and modern art, European art, European decorative art, and also the Gallery of Oriental Art. It’s an indoor museum, so weather isn’t an issue once inside.
Visiting hours: the main headquarters is open Wednesday to Friday, 10:00‑18:00, and Saturday to Sunday, 11:00‑19:00. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday. The last entrance is one hour before closing for the main building. There are several public holidays and seasonal dates when it is closed (for example, early January, Easter and related holidays, national holidays such as 1 May, 15 August and others).
Prices & tickets: on certain days there is free entry — for example, free entry on the first Wednesday of each month for the main MNAR building. There are also online tickets. Guided tours are available (in Romanian or English) but must be reserved in advance.
Restrictions & practical tips: Large bags, backpacks, umbrellas or other bulky items may need to be left in a cloakroom; food and drink are not allowed in galleries. Photography is allowed only without flash and without tripods; visitors are asked to keep voices low, not touch artworks, and keep a minimum distance (about one meter) from exhibits. If you can, try visiting on a weekend for slightly longer opening hours, or early in the day to avoid crowds.
