Description
The Museo Maya de Cancún is a premier archaeological museum located in the Hotel Zone at kilometre 16.5 of Boulevard Kukulcán. Designed by architect Alberto García Lascurain, the museum's modern architecture harmonizes with its natural surroundings, offering visitors an immersive experience into the ancient Maya civilization. The museum is situated adjacent to the San Miguelito archaeological site, allowing guests to explore both the museum's exhibits and the ruins in a single visit.
The museum houses one of Mexico's most significant Maya collections, featuring artifacts from Quintana Roo and other regions such as Palenque, Chichén Itzá, and Comalcalco. Exhibits include sculptures, ceramics, and jewellery that provide insights into Maya art, religion, and daily life. The museum's design includes three exhibition pavilions elevated eight meters above the ground, with expansive glass walls offering views of the surrounding jungle and the Nichupté Lagoon.
The Museo Maya de Cancún is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the last entry at 5:30 PM. General admission is 100 MXN, which includes access to both the museum and the San Miguelito archaeological site. Mexican citizens and residents receive free admission on Sundays, and there are also discounts for seniors and children. The museum offers a fascinating cultural experience for those interested in the rich history of the Maya civilization.
