Description
Dunn’s River Falls is a renowned natural attraction near Ocho Rios, featuring a terraced, multi-step waterfall made of travertine limestone that creates natural “stairs” for visitors to climb. The falls flow directly into a beautiful beach at the base and are surrounded by lush tropical forest and gardens, creating a stunning setting for the climb. The waterfall is about 180 feet (55 meters) tall and approximately 600 feet (183 meters) long. It is one of Jamaica’s most iconic nature experiences and draws visitors from around the world.
The park is open daily, typically from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with earlier opening times around 7:00 AM on days when cruise ships are in port to handle increased crowds. Entrance fees for non-resident adults are about US$25, while children aged 4 to 12 pay around US$17. Jamaican residents enjoy discounted rates. The admission fee includes access to the park and the services of a licensed guide who leads visitors up the falls for safety and support.
For the best experience, visitors should wear swimwear and water shoes or sturdy shoes with good grip, as the rocks can be slippery. Bringing a towel, change of clothes, sunscreen, and insect repellent is recommended. The climb generally takes between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on pace and photo stops. Guides usually lead groups by forming a human chain to ensure everyone’s safety. For those who prefer not to climb, there is a separate path alongside the falls offering great views without getting wet. Facilities include changing rooms, restrooms, lockers, food stalls, craft vendors, and a beach at the base.
