Description
The Maritime Museum in Dubrovnik is located in Fort St. John (St. John’s Fortress) on the Old Port, and it explores the maritime history of the Republic of Ragusa (Dubrovnik) from its beginnings through to modern times. You’ll see ship models, navigation instruments, nautical charts, paintings, documents, shipwreck finds, and exhibits of shipbuilding practices and naval life over the centuries. The exhibits are spread over the first and second floors of the fortress.
The Museum is open with seasonal hours: from April 1 to October 31 it’s usually open 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and in the winter months (November through March) from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. It is closed on Wednesdays. Tickets for the Maritime Museum alone are about €10 for adults; there are reduced prices for students and combined tickets for multiple museums which offer better value if you plan to visit more. Entrance rules include arriving at least 30 minutes before closing to ensure you have enough time to see both floors.
Because it’s inside an old stone fortress, there are stairs and uneven surfaces — it isn’t fully wheelchair accessible. Also, the interiors can be cool even in warm weather, which makes it a good respite during very hot or rainy days. The Fortress location means you're right by the harbour, so there are great views around and plenty of cafés close by. Wear comfortable shoes, allow around an hour (or more if you like details), and add this to your Old Town circuit for a nice balance of indoor & outdoor exploring.
