Lighthouse Beach, also known as Faros Beach, is located in the northwestern part of Paphos, Cyprus, approximately 2.5 kilometres from the city centre. This public beach is named after the nearby Paphos Lighthouse, which offers picturesque views and a historic backdrop. The beach is renowned for its golden sand and clear waters, earning it the EU Blue Flag certification for cleanliness and quality. It stretches about 400 meters and is situated within the Paphos Archaeological Park, making it a unique blend of natural beauty and historical significance.
The beach features a mix of sand and pebbles, with a sandy entry that transitions into rocky areas in the water. While the sea is generally clean, the presence of seaweed and rocky patches may affect the swimming experience. To mitigate this, many visitors choose to enter the water via a small pier, which provides easier access and avoids the seaweed. Lighthouse Beach is equipped with various amenities, including sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent, public toilets, showers, changing rooms, and recycling bins. A beach volleyball court and a playground are also available for recreational activities. Lifeguard services are provided during the bathing season, which runs from April to October.
Accessibility at Lighthouse Beach has been improved to accommodate visitors with mobility challenges. A wheelchair-accessible mat extends from the parking area to the beach, and the changing and shower rooms are accessible by ramp. The beach is generally less crowded than some of the more popular beaches in Paphos, offering a more relaxed atmosphere. While there are no on-site cafes or restaurants, visitors can enjoy the nearby Lighthouse Beach Bar, which provides refreshments and light meals. The beach is free to access, and visitors are encouraged to respect the environment by adhering to local regulations, such as no littering and following designated swimming areas.
