Lasham Gliding Society, located near Alton in Hampshire (postcode GU34 5SS), is one of the world’s largest gliding clubs, with over 700 members and a fleet that includes 16 club gliders, 5 tow planes, and more than 230 privately owned gliders. Nestled in the stunning Hampshire countryside, the airfield offers a unique opportunity to experience the magic of silent, engine-less flight. Whether you're a first-timer looking to enjoy a 20-minute trial lesson or someone keen to work towards a pilot’s licence, Lasham is the perfect place for both adventure and discovery. The site also features a modern clubhouse, café, bar, children’s play area, and a viewing terrace, making it an enjoyable visit for the whole family.
Glider trial lessons are available seven days a week for those aged 14 and above, starting at £140 for a session that typically lasts around 20 minutes. For those serious about taking up the sport, “Learn to Glide” courses begin at approximately £990, while the Glider Flying Start package is available from around £245. Flying operations run daily from 08:30 to 17:00 year-round, with extended evening flying sessions during the spring and summer months for youth groups, aerobatics, and pre-solo students. While there are no strict size limits, participants must be at least 14 years old to fly.
