Description
Kadıköy Cinema, located at Bahariye Caddesi Kadıköy Passage, was opened for use as a theatre on April 2, 1964. The architect of the building made by Arslan Ekşioğlu is; It was Melih Koray. Yıldırım Önal continued his theater activities with his troupe in the hall for three years until 1967. The hall, whose architectural design was made as a theatre, started to be used as a cinema since 18 May 1967 due to economic problems. After the hall started to be used as a cinema, Arslan Ekşioğlu transferred his shares to Halil Toktaş. At the end of 1968, Halil Toktaş handed over the hall to Erol Kocadağ. The ownership of the hall passed to Erol Kocadağ. In the following years, the operators of the hall also changed. The hall, where cinema screenings were held in winter between 1968 and 1980, In the summer months, it served as a touring venue that is rented monthly for theatre companies. Among the theatre companies that stage their plays here; Nejat Uygur, Nisa Serezli-Tolga Aşkıner Theater, Dostlar Theatre and Devekuşu Cabaret Theatre can be counted. The hall underwent some renovations after it was converted into a movie theater. The stage of the hall, whose number of seats has been increased, has been reduced. Since the first months of 2018, the hall continues to host film screenings and many branches of art under the management of Funda Kocadağ and her son Erol Yusuf.
