Description
The Honolulu Zoo is a 42-acre wildlife sanctuary nestled between the slopes of Diamond Head and the vibrant Waikiki district. Home to over 1,230 animals from tropical regions, the zoo offers a diverse array of exhibits, including the African Savanna, Asian Tropical Forest, and Pacific Islands. Families can explore habitats featuring giraffes, orangutans, elephants, and native Hawaiian species like the nene goose. The lush landscaping and shaded pathways make it a comfortable setting for visitors of all ages.
For younger visitors, the Keiki Zoo provides interactive experiences with domestic animals and a playground for active play. The zoo also offers unique programs such as Twilight Tours, where guests can experience the zoo after hours, observing nocturnal animal behaviours and learning about conservation efforts. These tours provide an enriching experience that goes beyond the typical daytime visit.
Located at the corner of Kapahulu Avenue and Kalakaua Avenue, the Honolulu Zoo is open daily from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with the grounds closing at 4:00 PM. Admission is affordable, with special rates available for kamaʻāina and U.S. military personnel.
