Description

The Etihad Museum in Dubai is dedicated to the history of the United Arab Emirates’ formation, located on the exact site where the nation’s founding fathers signed the constitution on 2 December 1971. This location, formerly known as Union House, is also where the UAE’s first national flag was raised. Opened to the public in January 2017, the museum preserves and presents the political, cultural, and social journey of the nation, displaying important documents, photographs, and personal belongings of the rulers who played a key role in uniting the seven emirates.

Architecturally, the museum is a striking landmark designed by Moriyama & Teshima Architects to resemble an open manuscript, symbolizing the signing of the UAE constitution. Seven prominent columns outside represent the pens used by the rulers during this historic agreement. Much of the museum is located underground, with eight interconnected pavilions guiding visitors through an immersive narrative — from the early days of the emirates to the signing of the union and the country’s growth into a modern nation.

Covering an area of 25,000 square meters, the Etihad Museum offers interactive exhibitions, a library, classrooms, a multipurpose hall, and a café, making it both a cultural attraction and an educational hub. It incorporates the restored Union House and Guest Palace into its grounds, adding authenticity to the visitor experience. Open daily from 10 am to 8 pm, the museum is affordable and accessible, with free admission for children and people of determination, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking to understand the UAE’s national identity and heritage.
