Description
Cișmigiu Gardens, or Parcul Cișmigiu, is the oldest public park in Bucharest, Romania, dating back to 1847. Spanning approximately 14.6 hectares, it is situated in the heart of the city, bordered by Regina Elisabeta Boulevard and Schitu Măgureanu Boulevard. The park was designed in the English landscape style by German landscape architect Wilhelm Friedrich Carl Meyer and his assistant Franz Hörer. It transformed a former swampy area into a lush green space, introducing over 30,000 trees and plants, many imported from the Romanian mountains and Vienna's botanical gardens.
Visitors to Cișmigiu Gardens can enjoy a variety of attractions year-round. The park features a large artificial lake where, during summer, visitors can rent boats for leisurely rides, and in winter, the lake often freezes, allowing for open-air ice skating. The park is also home to several statues of Romanian writers, a rose garden, and a children's playground. Chess enthusiasts can be seen playing on stone chess tables, and the park frequently hosts traditional fairs, flower exhibitions, and musical performances.
Cișmigiu Gardens is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and admission is free. The park is easily accessible via public transportation, with the Izvor and Universitate metro stations nearby. It’s a popular spot for both locals and tourists, offering a peaceful retreat in the city's centre. Whether you're looking to relax by the lake, enjoy a boat ride, or explore the park's rich history and natural beauty, Cișmigiu Gardens is a must-visit destination in Bucharest.
