Description
The Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre is a historic and elegant entertainment venue located on Westover Road in Bournemouth. Opened in 1929, the theatre was designed in the Art Deco style and officially inaugurated by the Duke of Gloucester. Built as a concert hall and theatre, it has retained much of its original charm, including a beautifully ornate auditorium and grand architectural detailing. Today, it stands as one of the town’s most iconic cultural landmarks and is a listed Grade II building, preserving its heritage status.
Inside, the Pavilion boasts a main auditorium with seating for around 1,400 guests, along with a spacious ballroom that can accommodate additional events. The theatre features a large stage with a traditional proscenium arch and is equipped with a historic Compton organ, which is still used for special concerts and recitals. It regularly hosts a wide range of live performances, including musicals, ballets, operas, stand-up comedy, tribute shows, and family-friendly pantomimes during the holiday season.
Managed by BH Live, the Pavilion is not just a performance venue but also a key location for community and private events. It accommodates everything from weddings and gala dinners to conferences, fashion shows, and graduation ceremonies. Following several restorations over the years—including a major refurbishment in 2007—the Pavilion Theatre successfully blends historical grandeur with modern facilities, maintaining its status as a vibrant centre for arts and events in Bournemouth.
