Description

Boojum Rock, commonly known as Boston Viewpoint, is located in the Middlesex Fells Reservation just north of Boston, in Malden, Massachusetts. Sitting at about 279 feet in elevation, it is the highest point in Malden and a well-known scenic spot offering striking views. The viewpoint lies along the rugged Rock Circuit Trail, which winds through rocky, wooded terrain and offers a surprisingly wild experience so close to the city.

The area is open year-round and free to access. Visitors can park near Flynn Skating Rink or arrive via public transit with a short hike from the Orange Line. Reaching the summit involves navigating trails marked with white blazes; some routes feature short scrambles over exposed granite. While it’s not an overly long hike—generally between one to two miles round trip—it does offer a light challenge, making it popular with both seasoned hikers and adventurous beginners.

The reward at the top is a wide, unobstructed view of Boston’s skyline, the wooded Fells, Revere Beach, and surrounding towns like Melrose. The viewpoint is especially popular at sunset, when the city glows in warm evening light. Boojum Rock is a beloved local escape—perfect for a quick hike, quiet reflection, or simply enjoying a mix of urban and natural beauty without leaving Greater Boston.
