Description
Boscombe Beach in Bournemouth is a vibrant, family-friendly stretch of Blue Flag coastline centred around the scenic Boscombe Pier. It features gently sloping sandy shores that extend both east and west—quieter toward the east and more energetic near the pier, where you’ll find cafés, surf shops, and beach bars. The restored pier offers panoramic views of Poole Bay and serves as a popular spot for fishing with a permit.
The beach is lively and activity-focused, with features like climbing boulders, slacklining, table tennis, and volleyball courts. Watersports are especially popular here, with surf schools offering lessons and rentals, particularly near the pier. Lifeguards patrol the beach daily from late spring to early autumn, typically between May and September, making it a safe environment for swimming and other water-based activities.
Boscombe Beach is well-equipped for accessibility and visitor convenience. Mobi-Mats and beach wheelchairs make the beach more accessible for wheelchair users, and there are accessible beach huts with toilets, showers, and parking. Additional amenities include public toilets, showers, drinking water, and food kiosks. Cycling is allowed along the promenade, though speed restrictions apply in peak months. Dogs are not allowed on the beach between 1 May and 30 September but are welcome at other times with some restrictions. Open fires and camping are not permitted, though electric barbecues are available for public use during the summer.
