Description
Museo Bellapart is a private art museum located on the 5th floor of the Honda Building (a car dealership) at Avenida John F. Kennedy corner Dr. Lembert Peguero in Santo Domingo. It was founded in 1999 by Juan José Bellapart and hosts a large permanent collection of Dominican art dating from the late 19th century through much of the 20th. The works include paintings, drawings, sculptures, engravings, and other media by many of the Dominican Republic’s most celebrated artists.
The museum is open Monday through Friday from around 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and on Saturdays only in the morning (about 8:00 AM to noon). It is closed on Sundays. Entry is free of charge. Guided group tours can be arranged by reservation.
Visitors should note that finding the museum means navigating through the Honda dealership entrance; it’s on the top floor. There is limited parking nearby, so arriving earlier is better. Bags may need to be left at reception, and basic museum rules apply (no touching exhibits, no food or drink in exhibition areas, modest behaviour). It’s a good spot for anyone interested in art, especially Dominican art history, and gives a quieter, more contemplative experience than larger tourist museums.
