Description
Bath Abbey’s central tower, rising 161 feet above the historic city, offers a remarkable chance to experience one of Bath’s most iconic landmarks from a new perspective. The Abbey itself dates back to the late 15th century, standing on a site of Christian worship that spans over 1,300 years. Known for its stunning fan-vaulted ceilings, detailed stonework, and the famous “Ladder of Angels” carved on its West Front, the Abbey is a marvel of Gothic architecture.
The tower tours are guided and take visitors on a 212-step climb via two spiral staircases. Along the way, guests get a behind-the-scenes look at the ringing chamber, clock room, and even the inside of the Abbey’s vaulted roof. The highlight is the open-air rooftop platform, which offers panoramic views over Bath’s Georgian cityscape, the Roman Baths, and the rolling hills of Somerset. The tour lasts around 45 to 60 minutes and is both informative and atmospheric.
Tours are available Monday through Saturday, with hours varying slightly by season—typically starting from 10 or 11 AM and running into the mid-afternoon. There are no tours on Sundays. Tickets are around £10 for adults and £8 for children, and include general entry to the Abbey and its Discovery Centre. Special private or romantic tours can also be arranged, offering unique moments like champagne at the summit. Whether you're drawn by history, architecture, or the chance to see Bath from above, the Abbey Tower tour is one of the city's most rewarding experiences.
