Description
Banje Beach is one of Dubrovnik’s most famous beaches, located just outside the Old Town walls near the Ploče Gate. It offers sweeping views of the medieval city fortifications and Lokrum Island and is extremely convenient for anyone staying in or visiting the Old Town. Because of its proximity, you can reach it on foot in about 5 to 10 minutes from many points inside the historic centre.
The beach is mostly pebbly, made up of gravel and small rocks, although some sections in private or club areas may include finer material or padded loungers for added comfort. Water shoes are recommended, as the pebbles can be uncomfortable underfoot. The sea is clear, clean, and generally calm, making it great for swimming. Banje also offers a wide range of watersports including kayaking, paddleboarding, jet skiing, parasailing, wakeboarding, and even fly-boarding. The beach features beach clubs, bars, restaurants, and massage services, with music and nightlife events common in the summer months.
Entry to Banje Beach is free, but many of the amenities—like sunbeds, umbrellas, and showers—are part of paid zones. These areas often provide a more comfortable, catered experience. Since the beach is located just below the coastal road, access requires descending a series of stairs, which may pose challenges for those with mobility issues. Parking nearby is very limited, especially during peak tourist season. The beach can get extremely crowded in summer, particularly midday, so early morning or late afternoon visits are recommended for a more relaxed atmosphere.
