Description
Bang Saen Beach is a seaside stretch in Chonburi Province, roughly 108 kilometres east of Bangkok, making it one of the most accessible beach getaways for city dwellers. The shoreline runs about 2.5 kilometres and is maintained by the local municipality. Historically a coastal fishing village, it later developed into a popular local holiday destination thanks to infrastructure improvements and easier access from the capital.
The beach features golden-coloured sand and is often lined with palm trees and a beachfront promenade. It’s known for having a relaxed, family-friendly vibe, especially on weekdays, with locals flocking here for a casual day out. Street food stalls and seafood vendors line the shore, selling grilled squid, mussels, spicy fish cakes, and more. Visitors can rent deck chairs, umbrellas, bicycles, and even kayaks. Popular activities include jet-skiing, banana boating, and beach volleyball.
Swimming is allowed but the water is often murky; however, it tends to clear up between October and February, when it can look as pristine as clearer tropical beaches. Occasionally, plankton blooms can tint the water green, though authorities monitor this and typically deem it safe for swimming. The municipality enforces a weekly “business-free day” for beach maintenance, including cleaning, trimming trees, and collecting fallen coconuts to ensure a peaceful atmosphere. While the beach is popular and well-loved, some visitors note it can become crowded and littered, especially on weekends, but many appreciate its local charm, casual culture, and calm blend of beach and town life.
