Description
Amanera is an ultra-luxury resort located on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic, perched above the pristine Playa Grande beach in Río San Juan. Opened in 2015, it is the first Aman resort in the country and the brand’s first to include a golf course, the renowned Playa Grande Golf Course, which features the highest number of oceanfront holes in the Western Hemisphere. The resort’s name combines the Sanskrit word “Aman,” meaning “peace,” with “era,” the Taino word for “water,” reflecting its serene and natural setting.
The resort offers 25 spacious, open-plan casitas and villas, each with expansive terraces, floor-to-ceiling windows, and private plunge pools. Designed using natural materials like local stone and handcrafted tiles, the accommodations blend seamlessly into the surrounding jungle and cliffs. The architecture is inspired by the natural landscape, featuring curved roofs and open spaces that invite the outdoors in. Amenities include a signature restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, a cigar bar, a library, a curved swimming pool with daybeds, a spa offering various treatments, tennis courts, and a fitness centre.
Guests can enjoy activities such as horseback riding along secluded beaches, boat trips exploring the nearby Laguna Gri Gri, and rum tastings showcasing Dominican spirits. There is also a children’s club, making it suitable for families who want to enjoy the tranquil environment together. Due to its remote location, guests should plan transportation carefully and check with the resort for access and any associated costs. Amanera offers a private and exclusive experience in a breath-taking natural setting.
