Alameda Wildlife Conservation Park is a charming, small-scale zoo located within the lush Gibraltar Botanic Gardens. It was originally founded in the mid-1990s as a refuge for animals—such as parrots, tortoises, and monkeys—that had been confiscated from illegal wildlife trade. Since then, the park has grown into a centre for conservation and education, caring for rescued animals as well as native species that may one day be reintroduced into Gibraltar’s Upper Rock Nature Reserve.

The park is home to around 36 species, including cotton-topped tamarins, Barbary macaques, Asian small-clawed otters, parrots, tortoises, and even Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs. Children and adults alike can enjoy observing these animals in naturalistic enclosures designed to promote their welfare. With a calm, garden-like setting and an emphasis on learning and sustainability, it’s a great place for kids to gain a deeper understanding of biodiversity and wildlife care.

The park is open most of the year, closing only on Good Friday, National Day (September 10), and Christmas Day. Usual opening hours are from 10:00 AM to around 4:30 PM, depending on the day. Admission is affordable, with tickets priced at approximately £8 for adults and £5 for children aged 5 to 15, while children under 5 can enter for free.
