Description
Attica Zoological Park is Greece’s only large-scale zoo, located in Spata, just a 20-minute drive east of central Athens and close to the international airport. Covering around 20 hectares, the park is home to over 1,500 animals representing more than 220 species. Visitors can explore themed zones such as the African Savannah, the World of Reptiles, Birds of Prey, the Greek Forest, and a butterfly house. There are also aquarium-style exhibits, shaded picnic areas, a petting zoo, a playground, and a café, making it a full-day destination for families and animal lovers.
The zoo is especially popular with children thanks to interactive elements like walk-through enclosures, feeding demonstrations, and a hands-on petting farm with goats, bunnies, and other friendly animals. Educational zones and talks help kids learn about wildlife conservation and different ecosystems. While there’s no age restriction, children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The park is stroller- and wheelchair-accessible, and free parking is available on-site.
Admission is reasonably priced: adults typically pay around €21, children aged 3–12 pay about €16, and entry is free for children under 3. Family ticket packages and discounts for students, seniors, and large families are also available. The park is open every day of the year from 9:00 AM until sunset, with last entry about one hour before closing. Whether you're visiting Athens with kids or simply love animals, Attica Zoo offers a fun and educational escape just outside the city.
