Description
Las Cuartetas is an iconic pizzeria located at Avenida Corrientes 838, in the heart of Buenos Aires, near the Teatro Ópera. Founded in 1932 by Basque Luis Urcola and Catalan José Espinach, its name comes from a local legend: the tango poet Alberto Vacarezza reportedly wrote his quatrains on napkins and left them on the tables. Over time, customers began referring to the place as “La Casa de Las Cuartetas,” and the name stuck.
The menu at Las Cuartetas features a wide variety of thick-crust, tray-style pizzas, known for their generous cheese layers. Popular options include the Fugazzeta (stuffed with onion and cheese), the Salvatore (mozzarella, onion, anchovies, and olives), and the classic Muzzarella. Prices vary by size and toppings, with large pizzas ranging from approximately $13,000 to $31,000 ARS.
Las Cuartetas is known for its bustling, lively atmosphere and quick service, making it a favorite for diners before or after attending a theater show nearby. While it can get crowded and the service may feel impersonal at times, the quality and flavor of the pizzas have kept it a beloved institution in Buenos Aires. .
