Description
The Yves Saint Laurent Museum Marrakech (mYSLm), inaugurated on October 19, 2017, is dedicated to celebrating the life and creative work of the iconic French couturier Yves Saint Laurent, whose deep connection to Marrakech profoundly influenced his palette and design. Designed by the Paris-based firm Studio KO (Karl Fournier and Olivier Marty), the museum stands on Rue Yves Saint Laurent near the famous Jardin Majorelle—a former residence bought by Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé—and spans approximately 4,000 m² of exhibition, research, and cultural spaces.
The heart of the museum is its 400 m² permanent exhibition hall, which presents about fifty couture garments—such as the iconic Mondrian dress, "Le Smoking" tuxedo, safari jacket, and pea coat—set against minimalist black backdrops to highlight their form and fabric. The scenography designed by Christophe Martin enriches the experience with immersive audiovisual content—films, sketches, runway footage, music, and narration—to reveal the designer’s creative journey and thematic obsessions like gardens, Morocco, and dualities of masculine–feminine aesthetics.
Beyond its couture gallery, mYSLm features a temporary exhibition space, a photography gallery, a research library of over 5,000 volumes (including rare Andalusian, botanical, and Amazigh works), a boutique and bookstore, a café-restaurant named "Le Studio," and a 150-seat auditorium for cultural programming. The museum is open daily except Wednesdays, from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with last admission at 6 p.m.; currently, the temporary exhibition hall is closed for renovations through mid‑September 2025
