Description
Baiwang Mountain Forest Park is located just north of the Summer Palace in Beijing’s Haidian District and is one of the city’s closest large-scale forested retreats. Spanning over 130 hectares, the park is a peaceful escape filled with dense woodlands, rich with pine, maple, magnolia, and other seasonal blooms. With around 95% vegetation coverage, it is often referred to as an "urban oxygen source" and is cherished for its fresh air and natural tranquillity.
The park is open daily, typically from around 6:00 or 7:00 AM until late afternoon (usually 5:00–6:00 PM depending on the season), and entry is inexpensive, costing just a few yuan. Accessible via the North and East gates, it offers well-maintained paths suitable for both leisurely strolls and more vigorous hikes up to its 210-meter peak. In addition to scenic walking routes, the park features cultural landmarks such as ancient temples, memorial halls, traditional pavilions, and the Capital Green Culture Stele Forest. There are also rock-climbing areas and bird-watching spots scattered throughout the grounds.
The summit of Baiwang Mountain provides a rewarding panoramic view over Beijing and the surrounding plains, especially breath-taking during the golden hues of autumn. The forest bursts into vibrant reds and oranges, making it a popular destination for leaf-peeping and photography. Wildlife such as pheasants, squirrels, and even occasional deer add to the park’s serene atmosphere. Whether you're in search of a natural escape, light exercise, or a quiet place to reflect, Baiwang Mountain Forest Park offers one of the best green getaways near the capital.
