Description
Bristol Flyers are an English professional basketball team based near Stoke Gifford, in north Bristol. They play indoor matches at the SGS College WISE Arena, a compact venue seating around 750 to 800 spectators. Founded in 2005 through a merger of Filton Flyers and Bristol Academy, the team entered the top-flight British Basketball League in 2014 under the Bristol Sport group. The Flyers have strong community support and ambitious future plans, including a new purpose-built arena with 4,000 to 5,000 seats next to Ashton Gate Stadium, with construction expected to begin in 2025.
The Flyers compete in Super League Basketball (the rebranded BBL) and the European North Basketball League (ENBL), with their season running from late September to late April. The club has grown steadily, achieving its best-ever league finish in 2022–23 and reaching the SLB Trophy Final in 2025. Since 2018, their home games at SGS Arena have regularly sold out. Matches are usually played weekly or biweekly, often on weekends, so checking the club’s official schedule in advance is recommended for those planning a visit.
Adult ticket prices generally start in the mid-teens to low £20s, and due to the small venue size, tickets often sell out quickly—especially for popular matchups or local rivalries. Premium and hospitality packages may be available for an upgraded experience. Seating is general admission, and re-entry is not allowed once inside. The venue is fully indoors and accessible via public transport, with nearby train stations and bus links. During colder months, it's advisable to wear layers, and families with younger children may want to bring ear protection, as the atmosphere can be loud and energetic.
