Description
UGC De Brouckère is a well-known cinema complex located in the heart of Brussels at Place de Brouckère. It is housed in the historic Eldorado building, originally opened in 1933, which is celebrated for its striking Art Deco architecture designed by Marcel Chabot. Once boasting one of the largest auditoriums in Europe with over 2,700 seats, the cinema underwent extensive renovations in the 1990s. Today, it operates as a modern 12-screen multiplex while preserving much of its original architectural grandeur.
The Grand Eldorado auditorium remains the highlight of UGC De Brouckère, featuring intricate gilded reliefs inspired by scenes from the Belgian Congo, created by sculptors Wolf and Van Neste. The ceiling showcases a distinctive solar star motif, and the lighting has been carefully designed to accentuate the venue’s monumental details. Alongside the grand main hall, the cinema offers several smaller screening rooms, catering to a wide variety of film audiences and preferences.
UGC De Brouckère is known for its diverse film programming, including international blockbusters as well as European and independent films. It regularly hosts special events such as film festivals and exclusive premieres. Its central location makes it highly accessible via nearby public transport, including the De Brouckère metro station. The cinema also provides added conveniences such as a café and bar, enhancing the overall experience for visitors.
