Description
Sveti Jakov Beach is a peaceful and picturesque cove located about 1 to 2 kilometres east of Dubrovnik’s Old Town, just below the Church of St. Jakov. Set against cliffs and surrounded by greenery, it offers stunning views of Lokrum Island and the Old Town in the distance. The beach is a bit more secluded than Dubrovnik’s central spots, making it ideal for visitors seeking a quieter, more relaxed environment. It can be reached on foot, by local bus, or by car or taxi, with access requiring a descent down a long staircase from the church above.
The beach itself is made up mostly of fine pebbles and gravel, with a few sandy patches and rocky areas. The Adriatic water here is exceptionally clear, making it perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Visitors can rent sunbeds and umbrellas, and there’s a small beach bar and restaurant offering refreshments and light meals. Kayak rentals and other small-scale water activities may also be available, depending on the season and sea conditions.
Access to Sveti Jakov Beach is free, but you’ll need to pay for amenities like loungers and umbrellas. Getting down to the beach requires descending around 100 to 160 steps, which makes it a bit of a challenge for those with mobility issues or small children. There is limited parking near the church at the top of the cliff, though it can fill up quickly during the summer months. While the beach offers fewer facilities than some more commercial locations, its natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere make it one of Dubrovnik’s hidden gems.
