The Romanian Athenaeum is a neoclassical concert hall located in the heart of Bucharest, at 1–3 Strada Benjamin Franklin. Constructed between 1886 and 1888, it stands as a symbol of Romanian cultural identity and artistic heritage. Designed by French architect Albert Galleron, the building features a grand dome, a peristyle of six Ionic columns, and a richly decorated interior. Its most striking feature is the 75-meter-long fresco by Costin Petrescu, depicting scenes from Romanian history, which encircles the auditorium beneath the dome.
Visitors can explore the Athenaeum through guided tours available upon prior appointment. Tickets are priced at 10 RON and can be purchased at the venue. For group visits, it's recommended to contact the management in advance to arrange a guided experience. The Athenaeum is easily accessible by public transport, with several bus and metro lines serving the area.
