Description
Amber World Museum is located at Calle Arzobispo Meriño 452, at the corner with Restauración Street, in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo. It showcases many beautiful amber pieces—jewellery, ornaments, fossils, and small specimens—alongside informative displays explaining how amber is formed, its history, and how it’s used. There’s also a workshop on site, so the amber and larimar items for sale in the museum shop are often crafted right there. Many visitors find the guided tour helpful for understanding more about the geology and artistry behind amber.
The museum is open Monday through Saturday from about 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and on Sundays from 9:00 AM until early afternoon (usually around 1:30‑3:00 PM). Admission is very affordable—about 50 Dominican Pesos (roughly US$1‑2, depending on exchange rate). Because the museum is not large, a typical visit takes around 30 to 60 minutes, depending on your interest in reading the exhibits or exploring in more depth.
To make the most of your visit, go when you are alert (morning or early afternoon) so you can read the panels and enjoy the displays without rushing. Wear comfortable shoes since there are stairs to navigate and some walking. It’s also a good idea to bring cash for the entrance fee and for any purchases in the gift shop. Since the location is in the Colonial Zone, it’s within walking distance if you’re staying nearby; otherwise a short taxi ride works well.
