Description
The Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) is a premier cultural institution located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, within the lush surroundings of the Perdana Botanical Gardens. Established in 1998, the museum spans 30,000 square meters and houses over 10,000 artifacts, offering an extensive exploration of Islamic art and culture across 12 permanent galleries. Exhibits include intricately designed textiles, ceramics, metalwork, manuscripts, and architectural models, representing regions from Southeast Asia to the Middle East and beyond. Notably, IAMM features one of the world's largest scale models of the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca.
The museum operates daily from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, with the last entry at 5:30 PM. It is closed on Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Hari Raya Aidiladha, and during Ramadan, operating hours are adjusted to 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission fees are RM20 for adults, RM10 for students and Malaysian senior citizens (60+), and free for children under 6. Non-Malaysian senior citizens are charged RM20. Visitors typically spend about 1.5 hours exploring the permanent exhibits.
For those traveling by public transport, the museum is accessible via a 5-minute walk from the Kuala Lumpur KTM Station and approximately a 7-minute walk from the Pasar Seni LRT station. Free parking is available on-site. The museum is fully wheelchair accessible and offers amenities such as a halal-certified restaurant, MOZA, which operates from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM daily. Additional facilities include a gift shop, prayer rooms, and free Wi-Fi.
