The museum is located at 160 Avenue des Arènes de Cimiez, nestled in the historic Cimiez district of Nice. It showcases the rich archaeological heritage of the region, focusing on the ancient Roman city of Cemenelum. Visitors can explore permanent and temporary exhibitions featuring artifacts from the Bronze Age through the early Middle Ages, including ceramics, sculptures, and domestic items unearthed from local digs. The museum is complemented by an outdoor archaeological site with preserved ruins, including a Roman amphitheatre and baths, offering an immersive experience into ancient Roman life.
The museum is open daily except Tuesdays. From November 1 to April 30, visiting hours are 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. From May 2 to October 31, it stays open an hour later, until 6:00 PM. It is closed on January 1, Easter Sunday, May 1, and December 25. Ticket prices are €5 for standard admission and €4 for groups of 10 or more. Children under 18, students, job seekers, teachers, individuals with disabilities, and their companions enter for free. There is also a 3-Day Museum Pass for €15 giving access to all municipal museums and galleries in Nice. Payment methods include cash, credit/debit cards, holiday vouchers, and cheques.
The museum and parts of the archaeological site are accessible to visitors with disabilities. It is easy to reach by public transport, with bus lines 5, 18, and 33 stopping nearby at Arènes / Musée Matisse.
