Description
The Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik (MOMAD) is situated in a 1930s mansion just outside the Old Town at Ploče, offering a serene setting with views over the Adriatic. Originally built as a private residence, the building was converted into a museum in 1948. Today, it houses a rich collection of Croatian modern art, encompassing paintings, sculptures, and graphic works from the early 20th century to contemporary pieces. Notably, the museum features works by Vlaho Bukovac, a renowned Croatian painter.
MOMAD's exhibitions span multiple floors, with the first floor dedicated to early Croatian art and the upper floors showcasing modern and contemporary works. The museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions, providing a dynamic experience for visitors. Recent exhibitions have included "Sculpture" by British artist Tony Cragg, "Sky Under Dubrovnik" by Mihaela Rašica, and "The Spa" by Bojan Mrđenović. These exhibitions highlight the museum's commitment to showcasing both Croatian and international artists.
The museum is open daily from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, except on Mondays. Admission is free for children under 7 and residents of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. For others, a combined ticket valid for seven days grants access to multiple museums and galleries within the Dubrovnik Museums network. Visitors can also enjoy a café within the museum, offering refreshments during their visit. Given the pleasant weather in Dubrovnik, with temperatures around 23°C (74°F), it's an ideal time to explore the museum and the surrounding historic sites.
