Description
The Rector’s Palace in Dubrovnik, now home to the Cultural History Museum, was once the seat of the Rector of the Republic of Ragusa, the executive leader of the old city-state. The building blends Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architectural styles, featuring a beautiful atrium with arcades, a Baroque staircase, stately chambers such as the Rector’s study and bedroom, a courtroom, prison cells in the basement, and displays of period furniture, portraits, coins, weapons, and artifacts that trace the social, political, and everyday life of Dubrovnik from its early days up to the 20th century.
The museum is open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM during the summer months (April 1 to October 31) and from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM during the winter (November 1 to March 31). On Mondays in winter it is closed. It also closes on major holidays like Christmas, New Year’s Day, and the Feast of St. Blaise.
For tickets, adult admission to the Rector’s Palace / Cultural History Museum is about €15, with concessions around €8 for students and children. There is also a combined ticket valid for several museums in Dubrovnik which offers better value if you plan to visit multiple sites. Residents of Dubrovnik‑Neretva County, young children under 7, and certain members of museum associations may get free or reduced entry.
