Museu de Portimão is a cultural institution located in Portimão, Algarve, Portugal. Housed in the historic former Feu Canning Factory, the museum offers visitors a comprehensive look into the region's rich history, from prehistoric times to the present day. The permanent exhibition, "Portimão, Territory and Identity," delves into the area's archaeological, industrial, and maritime heritage, highlighting significant periods such as the Roman and Moorish occupations. A notable feature of the museum is the "Under the Waters" exhibit, where visitors can view animated images of underwater life in the Arade River and the Atlantic Ocean, projected within the old rainwater cisterns beneath the museum.
The museum operates with varying hours depending on the season. From September 1st to July 14th, it is open Tuesday from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM, and Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the last entrance 30 minutes before closing. From July 15th to August 31st, the museum extends its hours, opening Tuesday from 7:30 PM to 11:00 PM, and Wednesday to Sunday from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, with the last entrance 30 minutes before closing. The museum is closed on Mondays and national public holidays. Admission is free on Sundays for Portuguese nationals and residents.
